need GMC Jimmy advice?

I have a 97 4.3L fuel injected Jimmy that I have to spray with starter fluid each time I start it,and then it stays running,but have to spray to restart,any help on this matter I would be grateful,I dont have a clue where to start looking,thnx
was told by the previous owner that he had a mechanic fix a fuel vent on the tank and that would solve my problem,any truth to this? or could it be a senser or relay maybe?

4 check engine lite...sensore control everything from fuel to spark/timing...get scan
5 fuel system last on my list but...filter? fuel pump? injector regulator? [just had mine replaced [99 4.3]

Chances are that your fuel pump is weak and will need to be replaced, the engine needs 62-65 PSI of fuel pressure for the injectors to start the engine. Anything less then that will cause what your are experiencing, note that also spraying starter fluid in to the intake to get the engine started is like gambling with your fuel injector system.

The poppet nozzle are nylon and a back fire or a upper intake platinum will damage the nozzle and that would be a extra expense to your Jimmy. To verify, check you fuel pressure at the shredder valve with the fuel pressure gauge that you can pick up at Auto Zone as a retail. You get you deposit back so it's really free to use and you can do it there also, the shredder valve is located on fuel line on the driver's side by the distributor.

Good luck and keep me posted, if your fuel pressure is low. Check your ground wire to the fuel pump before replacing the fuel sending unit. A back ground would cause your fuel pump to be weak which would give you the low fuel pressure and repairing a bad ground is faster the way cheaper then to replace the fuel sending unit.
