I just purchased a 1991 GMC 1500 extend cab pickup. It has 42,000 miles on it and is "prisitine". I want to change the front seats out because I need a high back seat, and would like them to be leather, and electric.

So the question is, has the interior space of a 1500 changed significantly over the last 25 years? When I look at my 1991 and then at a 2012 they look "about the same size and the width appears to be the same. So could I chase down a set of tan leather seats from any 1500 and have them fit? I realize I will have to modify the rails but curious about the dimensions of the seats, would they all work?
Lastly, if you were looking for beige leather seats, what year were the nicest ones produced? Any suggestions where to get them in the West US?
Reproductions? etc?

First post, First GMC, its a 4X4 that is untouched No rust, never hit, I got lucky

I don't think you will have any problems with swapping out seats. The only thing that I can think of is the connections if you go electric seats, since '91 til the present seats have gone through a few changes.(function)

Yes it seems straight forward, just not sure, whether I can match the brown interior its almost saddle brown, so its a deeper brown then tan. I was thinking of getting the lighter grey/tan in some Sierras, and trying to dye match it?

The electrical I am not worried about, I can create a harness that will work. Any idea where I can get some used ones in good shape? I would like to get front and back seats if possible. I will keep the originals but need the lumbar and tilt in the seats because of a bad back.

I have seen one set on eBay that are for a Silverado, which I assume will also work? I see seats that say CADILLAC ESCALADE SILVERADO SIERRA SUBURBAN TAHOE YUKON POWERED HEATED SEATS
So I am wondering if these are all interchangable or there are some variances that may make them not work?

As long as you stick with 1999 and back they should bolt right up. Seats from models past that will not bolt right up. SUV seats (Tahoe, Yukon etc) don't bolt in because of different floor pan.

I read about all the work someone had to do to make 2004 seats fit in a 92, that was a year or so back and can' recall which forum. One of the things I recall was the cabs were wider on new body style trucks so the seat end up with the drivers portion to the left of the steering wheel centerline. Things like that.
