New here and need help!!!

I just bought a 01 sierra yesterday and already having problems:mad:

It idles at around 500 rpm. is that normal?

Also it's stalled on me a couple of times. If i'm going 15 - 25 mph and come to a stop the idle drops to about 200 rpm and sometimes stalls.

What's wrong and how do I fix it.

I dont know a lot about trucks and how to work on them  so a detailed explination would be much appreciated.

Thanks everybody!!!

Start with the the simple and try cleaning your Throttle body, make sure you get the IAC (idle air control) valve. A dirty IAC will cause the issue your having and also check all your vacuum lines for any damages and replace the line if you find any.

The other thing also that can cause this is a EGR valve that is stuck or sticking. Start with cleaning both your EGR and throttle body as mentioned above. The other thing also that will help your engine is to give it the http://www.seafoamsales.com/ treatment.

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

My 2000 sierra 1500 does the same thing. Doesn't stall very often but idle is 500 rpm and sometimes rough. I'll have to try these cleaning ideas and get some seafoam.

try cleaning the Throttle body and make sure all the valves and the compressor is cleaned.

I do know about seafoam. Just put some it the other day, hopefully it helps!!

Think I fixed it!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Cleaned the throttle body and ran seafoam through it. Seemed to help alot.

Also put a new alternater in it (started hard).

And had a very very very noisy belt. What did I do??

Tire shine :D not a peep out of it since saterday.

Common for the serpentine belt to be noisy when a alternator or a new pully has be replaced. The Tire foam will work for a while and then will start to make noise again. Best thing to do is replace the belt and inspect your serpentine belt tension pulley. If the new belt makes noise, ask for another brand and the should do a swap for you for another belt brand. I find the Gator Back v-groove belt to be the most trouble free.:D

Thanks molson.

I did check the belt and it looked brand new to me.?

Might have to switch brands.

I'll keep you posted.
