Ditched my 2005 Tacoma with 128k miles for a 2014 Sierra Crew Cab Short Box All Terrain. Iridium Metallic, chrome rims, black runners, mud flaps and spray on Bedliner.

I love this truck! Light years ahead of the Tacoma. So far I have 320 miles on it, and I am averaging 19.4 mpg as per the computer. I drive 30 miles a day to work, all back roads. Very surprised with the fuel efficiency so far. I honestly wish my drive was farther!

I was very close to pulling the trigger on a Ram Hemi, but the 15 mpg on the 8 speed wasn't good enough. Plus, the Sierra has a much nicer interior IMO.

I do have a question though. Does the 2 year maintenance plan for oil changes go by oil life or mileage? I've seen that the average oil life is around 8500 miles for normal use. I just can't see waiting that long. Also, I've heard that the first oil change should be around 1500 miles.

Thoughts?

Congratulations on your new Sierra.I'm sure you'll enjoy it.What I've been doing with the oil changes on mine is that I take it to the dealer. That way there will be no doubt if something were to happen to the engine.

oil changes

the woman that walked me through the gm program when buying my 2014, told me don't wait for the oil light to come on, make sure you go in between five thousand and eight thousand kms. This coming from a dealership that is offering FREE OIL CHANGES for life of my vehicle. So if thats what they are saying and its only costing them more for me to be going in on shorter time frames then thats what I'm doing.

The GM 2 year maintenance plan goes by the oil life monitor. Check with your service department, but i the rule is 29% life left and under.

If you have the 5.3 or the 6.2, your truck uses 8.5 qts of the 0w20 dexos oil.

I talked to my dealer about that yesterday and was told by the service advisor GM will pay for 4 oil changes in 24 months no matter the remaining oil life remaining. Hope this correct as I will not wait for 8500 miles.
