I just bought a 2000 Sonoma SLS 4x4 with a 4.3L. It's my first truck and I got it for 1,500 because the intake manifold gasket had a pretty bad coolant leak. We're currently tearing it down to fix the leak which is turning into a top end rebuild because we've already got it apart and its got 176,000mi on it and we figured, might as well go ahead and do some insurance work. We're also replacing the timing chain. As far as I can tell aside from the usual rust spots on these it's in pretty good shape. is there anything else I should look for any tips or advice would be appreciated.

Hey there

Ive got the 4.3 but 2wd. if your planning on bolt on modding the truck ive been reading up on a cheap one you can do and it would be easy for you. in the upper intake manifold there is a baffle. im told you can take it out. since you've taken it off already, check it out if you want. I have already done cold air intake, different muffler, throttle body spacer, I got a air fuel radio for data logging. I used hp tuners and modded stock ecu. It made a huge difference in fuel economy. I plan to do that mod when I do intake manifold gasket. btw if I where you get an aluminum gasket last forever I issue that is what went in the truck previous to you. I hope you like to modd or mess around or this wont really help you

cheers
