Greetings fellow Sub Drivers. I have been lurking for some time and finally decided to join the forum. I have learned a lot from reading the posts and hope to learn more. My family has a 1995 GMC Sub 2500 4wd with the 350CI. We got it back in 1998 and it has been a good running machine. There have been some problems with it but all do after a while. I plan to run it into the ground.

My wife really didn't care for big trucks but now I can't pry her from it. It only has 83,000+- miles on it as we don't drive it daily at $3++ a gallon!

Anyway, here is my repair question. We went to a home store today and just as we were almost there the engine started to studder. I did and instrument check and noticed It was starting to overheat. We got off the freeway and we could see the steam coming out of the hood. I suspected a blown hose or over flow. It was only 60 degrees here in the Phoenix area so heat wasn't a problem.

We got to the Parking lot of the store and I opened the hood and had to wait for the steam to clear. Once it did I removed the air cleaner CLIMBED into the engine compartment and saw the problem. It it the pressure hose that comes out of the engine at the distributor that goes to the heater core. THE THREADED NIPPLE the hose attaches to broke due to corrosion and my bad maintenance.

After two hours waiting for a tow. we finally got home and now it sits in the street. My question is how hard is it to get this broken fitting out and replace it. I can change the hose I just need to get the fitting out And it WAAY in the back so I will have to sit on the engine to get it out.

One more question. I tried to start it after we got home and I have no starter. I have power, Lights and windows work just no starter power. Did the water short something or could it be a fuse.

Thanks for reading and I appreciate all help I receive.

One would think that after 128 people read this that ONE would have some advice.

How big is the hole? You can get e-z outs over the counter the size of your index finger. Find a machine shop or someone in the plumbing buisness, they should have some bigger ones. Good luck!!!

This is to late to help your situation, but here is what I did.
This is a common problem due to the quick release system GM used to assemble the engines.
NAPA sells a repair kit that includes a pipe tap, extractor and a reverse stepped drill bit to drill out the fitting because they are generally too rotten to get out any other way. Downside is they charge $75.00 for the kit.
I was quoted $800.00 for this repair, but managed to do it myself for less than $150.00 in parts (including the kit).
I pulled the intake manifold to do it as there is not enough room to get at it (maybe with a 90° attachment). You need to be careful when drilling so as not to drill the manifold too much.
While you are at it, try to eliminate as many of the "quick release" fittings as you can, it is only a matter of time. Saw them off and use hose clamps, it could save you a lot of time and irritation if you spring a leak in the boonies some day.
