Hey guys, I just got my first chevy truck. Started out driving an 01 Ford F150 with a 4.2L, 2wd base model. It sat on 33's had a 3.5" spindle lift and 2" blocks. It was a great truck and I have nothing against Fords at all but after driving it for a year, I wanted a v8 and 4x4. The majority of my friends drive Chevs so I thought, why not.

I wanted a project truck. I came acrossed an 01 Sierra with a 5.3L. Reg cab, long box. Base model. Needed rockers, cab corners, drivers fender, tailgate and should of got a new box but I fixed it anyway. The odometer didnt work so I had no clue how many km were on the truck. But for a truck that ran good, and with the price of $950, I cant go wrong. But the guy said the tranny was no good in 3rd or 4th.

I towed it home and went to work. Replaced fender, did the rockers and cab corners, fixed box, got tailgate. Replaced plugs and wires, wired in stereo equipment, tore intereior apart, got new windshield and replace idler arm to tighten up the front end.

Doing all the work is totally new to me. I towed the truck to work after it was primed and then sealed with flat black paint. I sealed it with the black so that I could drive it, and not worry about water or mud wrecking the primer. I also had a few dents to fix. After getting the safety inspection done at work I got it legally on the road and drove it. Sure enough third and fourth were toast.

I drove it home, and began my first tranny job. Took me and a friend about 5 hours to drop the tranny. I got a used tranny but the morons at the scrap yard gave me the wrong type of 4l60e. Bell housing and torque convertor were different. So I dropped that one back out. Then got my original tranny rebuilt, had it in but took out the pump when I installed it.. live and learn I guess. This time it took myself, just under 2 hours to drop exhaust, t-case and tranny. Im gettin good at this. Now Im waiting on the tranny shop.

I just want to drive my truck!

I have a few questions.

My truck had a 4.8L in it, but a previous owner but a 5.3 in it. How do I know what year of truck my engine came out of?

Is there any cheap mods I can do to my truck to make it go a little quicker.

I bought a Hypertech Programmer off ebay for $170. Not vin locked. I also have a K&N filter. Soon to be mods are straight pipes. I absolutely love the sounds of straight pipes. Im also going to get 5% tint all around and 2" wheel spacers.

thanks guys
