Recently purchased a 2010 gmc slt with the 5.3 an i was wondering if there is anything i can do to get a little better mileage i know that the stuff u do to diesels dont do the same for these trucks any info would greatly help thanks

Not much can be done if anything to improve mpg on a 5,000 lb truck/suv.

All the things people tell you will improve mpg like emc reprogramming, air filters and cold air kit, dual exhaust etc all cost a lot of money and return little or no mpg improvements or even worse (hot-rodding to hear loud exhaust). Keep in mind many will tell you they got way better mpg spending 100's of $ on these things but did they really? Are they just saying that to convince themselves they did not waste money of foolish accessories? You would think if these things really did improve mpg the oem would have use these to improve the mileage on their trucks as it would sell big. They don't because its just a placebo, only helps those selling the ecm tunes, air filters etc.

Give these guys a call and have your ECM tuned for better economy and performance. http://www.pcmforless.com/. Keeping your maintenance up to date also will help your gas mileage but the best would be to tune your engine from factory tuned.

The factory tune is leaning toward the EPA standards and the average driver out there. I have a HP Tuner and have been playing around retuning my pcm and the old man"s pcm on his 05 Yukon. With the tune i put in both his and my SUV, yes there was a great improvement as long as you don't go racing from stop to stop sign. :D

Good luck and don't worry about the exhaust, as for the intake you can or just make sure your air filter is always replaced or clean. ;)

Some recommendations GM suggests are:

1) Always keep your tires properly inflated.
2) Regularly change your air filter.
3) Use the proper viscosity oil.

In terms of driving operations:

1) Drive smoothly.
2) Empty your trunk.
3) Avoid extended idling.
4) Combine trips/errands so your vehicle only has to warm up once.

Thanks,
