I have a 2000 sierra 1500 with a 5.3 and it has just created an annoying problem. After I got home from work the other day I popped the hood while it was running because I kept hearing a hissing sound when I stopped at a light. As I was looking around I heard a loud pop and a white substance came blasting out of the a/c port that you test the r134 level at. The past 6 months or so I have noticed a residue at that port, almost crust like. I just figured it was gunk from the engine. After about 30 seconds it stopped, there was no change to how the engine was running but I noticed I had bits and pieces of a/c belt in the engine compartment and after shutting off the engine I tried to rotate the compressor but it is locked solid. I knew that my a/c was officially dead but the weird part is I no longer have heat in the truck either. I love this truck even though it is 16 years old but I am not sure what the failed a/c has to do with the heat. Or is this simply a coincidence? Not sure where to go from here, do I fix the a/c in hopes it will take care of the heat? Or will I be better off just accepting the fact that it is an old truck and I am getting to drive it without any creature comforts?
