Recently, I noticed a large amount of oil dripping from the engine area of my 95 Jimmy. I inspected the oil cooler lines and they appeared to be in good shape. The metal/rubber washers at the ends of each line, however, did not look so good. The rubber was split in several places. Not having replacement washers that matched, I fashioned some rubber washers from a sheet of 1/8" red rubber and re-installed the lines. The leak is gone.
Does anyone know if the washers must be rimmed with the metal jackets? Seems to me they might add resistance to the rubber tearing due to heat and pressure. If my "fix" is questionable in the long term, then does anyone know where I might buy four new washers? I prefer working on the jimmy at home over alongside a roadway.
Thanks
