There is no problem on your using the 10W30 in the summer or winter.
2000 GMC TRUCKS SIERRA 1500 PICKUP 5.3L 8-cyl Engine Code [T]
2000 GMC TRUCKS SIERRA 1500 PICKUP 4.8L 8-cyl Engine Code [V]
2000 GMC TRUCKS SIERRA 1500 PICKUP 4.3L 6-cyl Engine Code [W]

Engine Oil Grade 1......API* All TEMPS......5W-30, Optional: Above -18C......10W-30
SAE 5W-30 is preferred.
5.3L/4.8L Engine, with filter..........5.7 liters Oil Drain Plug.....18 ft/lbs
4.3L Engine, with filter..........4.3 liters Oil Drain Plug.....18 ft/lbs

Good luck and hope this helps you sleep at night.

On my 98, I use 5w30, and I plan on using 10w30 in the spring and summer with full confidence. I think they say 5w30 is "preferred" because of emissions, and/or mileage. Just a teeny bit less drag in the engine might give that extra tenth of a MPG.
