My son bought a 95 GMC Sierra 2500 4x4 and noticed ENGINE oil leaking out the bell housing. We were told that it was probably the rear main seal.

I noticed when the truck is 3/4 full on oil it doesnt leak. Would this indicate that the rear of the oil pan gasket is not sealing properly?

It could, but most likely it's going to be a worn rear main seal. If that is the case, go to a transmission shop to have them replace the rear main seal and the crank bearing also since your there. The transmission shop will be better in price and they are more experienced in to removing the transmission from the engine and placing it back in to place. The seals are simple to replace once the transmission has been removed and they can do that also, since it's the same as removing the seals on a transmission.

Good luck and keep us posted.
