Hey i'm new to jimmys i usually drive toyotas. I bought a 95 jimmy because i got a good deal on it and is in pretty good shape. My oil pressure gauge will go from about a quarter at idle to about 3/4 when i'm driving. When i stop at a light or stop sign it drops to about a quarter and starts bouncing or almost like its fluttering back and forth. I've never seen this before. Should it be something to be worried about? The motor runs great other than a small coolent leak i cant find. No smoke, noises or anything still lots of power. Doesnt burn oil. The gauge is in kpa and goes from 0-550.

Your fine with the oil sending unit, but if you would like to replace it. The oil sending unit is located at the back of the engine by the distributor. Make sure you install the right oil sending unit. one of just the simple light indicator on the dash and the other is for the gauge.

Also check your transmission fluid to make sure your coolant is not seeping i there from the transmission cool that is built in with your radiator. It's been know for the cooler to go bad and the engine coolant mixing in to the transmission.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I checked the tranny fluid it looks fine. The rad looks like new. I've been trying to track this leak down for a couple weeks now. Its Not loosing a whole lot, but eveytime i come back from a drive you can smell it buring of the engine pretty bad. I checked the heater core, around the water pump, the hoses, the rad, around the intake etc. Where ever its coming from it must be buring off so its not leaving any puddles or wet spots.

Common places for coolant leak on the 4.3 Vortec is a bad water pump seal or a intake manifold gasket that has gone bad and will need to be replaced. You can have your engine oil tested on the next service for an annalists to see if there is any coolant contamination if there is no other signs of coolant in your engine oil.

The common places to check would be under the oil filler cap and the PVC valve for moisture or any signs of oil milking.

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)
