I noticed last week that when I first start my car (1994 Jimmy with 4.3 Vortec), that the amp meter in the instrument cluster immediately shoots up to almost 19. As it warms up, it comes down but usually not until I make a stop and turn the vehicle off and even sometimes this makes no difference. Did not notice this problem before. Any ideas?

Obvious culprit would be alternator, but I know these things had their quarks about them. Just wanted to make sure there wasnt something I was unaware of before tackling the problem this weekend, providing the weather holds out.

prob. the regulator in the alt. As you prob. allready know most part stores can check it for you, but have the battery checked too, a shorted and dieing cell in the battery can cause the regulator to over compensate thus cause the over charging rate ... luck to ya
