Having a problem with my 1999 Jimmy, has only 89000 miles on it. Two weeks ago, the SES light came on while drining home from work. Didn't really worry too much because I know that usually means a vacumn leak and since my truck has some rust starting near the gas filler area, I thought that might be the problem. It ran fine for about 3 days, brought it home and parked it in the driveway. Next time I went to start it, it would crank but not catch. We listened to the fuel pump while turning the key but it was not priming (had the ignition modual and coil pack changed out last August) took it to a Chevy dealer, they changed out the fuel pump at a cost of $955.00. Picked it up and drove it a few days but ever since they changed the fuel pump, it has been hesitating, didn't do that beore. Check engine light came back on so I took it back to the dealer, they ran diagnostics on it and came up with the code p0300, they suggested I have a tune up done and they found a leak in the fuel filler neck which was causing yet another code, estimate was $1100.00, after just paying almost 1000.00, can't afford that..Since I am not a mechanic, I would like to know the best way to go about solving the problem, Thought I would start with changing out the plug wires, I have read the previous suggestions on this site but since I am not that savvy, thought I would ask for ther best course of action. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Start with the simple and replace the distributor cap and wires if there old. When replacing the distributor cap and rotor, make sure you use OEM or one that has the brass inserts on the cap. http://www.jegs.com/i/Accel/110/TST1/10002/-1?parentProductId=751918

Good luck and replace your fuel filter if it has not been done yet.;)
Keep us posted and these things you can do on your won, feel free to ask if you need instructions.

Went out and started my truck, had to crank it a few times to get it started though, Usually it starts right up. When its sitting in idle, engine runs smooth, no probelm but as soon as I shift it into gear, engine starts running really rough and will stay running rough when I put it back into park. Going to try changing out the fuel filter to see if that got plugged when they dropped the tank. Hopefully I can get it back on the road soon, really miss my truck.

Update

Finally got the chance to work on my truck. It needed a passenger side wheel bearing so I went and picked that up and also the fuel filter and the air filter which, when I checked it, was extremely dirty and even had leaves in it,
the fuel filter was dripping black fuel after it was changed. Went to the local gas station, it was still hesitating, filled it with Hi Test and a good gas treatment, ran it for about 35 miles, truck now runs really sweet, no hesitating and the SES light went out, I assumed that since they dropped the tank and stirred up the sediment in the bottom, most likely clogged the fuel filter and since they didn't change that as part of the service, decided to start there,, not too happy with the service at the dealer,, only cost me 138.00 for the parts in cluding the wheel bearing, a lot better that the 1100.00 for a tune up and to change the filler neck and another 500.00 to change the wheel bearing :D:D:D

New issue

Truck was running fine for a couple of days, now when its cold, it runs really rough and jerky, hesitates a lot until I drive it a few miles and get the engine up to temp, then it smooths out and runs fine. Going to try a tune up, change the plugs, wires and distributor and rotor. Any other suggestions or would that possibly take care of the problem?
