I have a 99 GMC Jimmy, 2door 4x4. currently the parking lights will not shut of when you turn off the ignition or the light switch, the only way to shut them off is to go under the hood and pull the fuse. I traced the wiring harness and found nothing wrong/shorted, replaced the head light switch and checked all the fuses. it has day time running lights, even with those working or disabled it doesn't change. it has the day time running lights and they seem to function properly, parking brake shut of method works fine.

Am I missing something? Any one else have this problem or know of a fix? i'm stumped on this one, any helo would be greatly appriciated.
thanks

Chances are you'll have to get a wire diagram and trace the circuit. But the first, and easiest check should be to see if you're getting power feedback through the common (ground wire) in the parking brake circuit. Using a test meter, hook test meter "ground" (black wire) to your battery. With vehicle in failed position, i.e. ignition off and park lights on, remove a parking light bulb and check voltage on both wires that feed the bulb. Repeat test with engine running and park lights on. Look to see if voltage is changing from one wire to the other. One of the wires is a ground and should not have power. Your voltage reading should be the same as the battery. Engine running, about 14v ---- engine off, about 12v. But power shouldn't change to the other(ground) wire.

One way to begin to isolated where this is shorted (and indeed there is a short) is to pull the other fuses one at a time untill the lights go out in the park light circuit. This will tell you which other circuit is feeding the power back into the park brake circuit. You can then look to see what is on that circuit and try to trace the wiring or componet that is shorted.

Thanks for the ideas, I'll be working this today. I'll post what i find.
