Hey everyone, New to the forum and auto in general looking to gain some knowledge by reading threads but i have a question.

So the situation is i have a 05 Sierra SLE crew cab 5.3L with Z71 4x4. I generally use it for towing but every once in a while i like to race it around and the other day i was barely able to beat a toyota tacoma with an i4:mad:.
i know the weight difference probably had a big effect but i expected alot more. So i was wondering is there anything i can do to my truck to add performance without dramatically affecting the 4x4 and towing capabilities? Please Help! Thank You

cheating when it comes to a 05 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L V8 vs a 01 Toyota Tacoma I4... should never come down to that.

well rember men it's not all motor gears have a lot to do with it. Alot of those toyota pickups had 410 gears which will make them fast of the line.

I'll be honest I'm as rookie as it gets with automotive, I know how to change axles, tires, rims oil, and spark plugs. Beyond that I'm ignorant. So if you could please tell me the differences in gears I'd appreciate it.

Have your PCM reprogrammed so that your Torque Management System percentage is turned down or off completely. Give these guys a call and they can help you get the performance your looking to get out of your 5.3 Vortec.

Good luck and keep us posted, the other solution is to get a http://www.hptuners.com/ and become a tuner junky lol. :p

what you can also do is regear and add some underdrive pullies if you dont have efans add them as well. the efans and undrive pullies wont net you anymore power but will free up power that you already had

You can also trade it in on a truck with the 6.2L 403hp engine, Denali for instance. You won't need to chip it or spend money with adding things that cost a lot of money and give questionable results.

here is the real problem............. No mader how fast it is we always want to make it go faster.............. so just go buy the dodge tk with the factory....... V-10 in it.

What i did

I have the same truck, tow a 27.5 fooot travel trailer, with a 550 lb quad in the box and also like to pick on the 5.0 mustangs while just driving.

K&N air intake installed, very easy to do.

I also took it in to have new larger exhaust run from back to front..... it sounds great and BIG diff on power.

I have a superchips also , but don't waste your money the exhaust and intake is the best bang for your buck.

Thanks you for all the advice, i was looking into superchips also why do you say not to waste my money on it?

i would be willing to put money down that your intake and exhaust didt net you that much power. maybe the seat of your pants dyno thinks you neted big power but i can promise you didnt you may be looking at like 5hp 10hp if your really really lucky. hate to bust your ballon. if i took another truck just like yours and i mean down to the interior and i put underdrive pullies, efans, regeared the axles bought a new tuner slapped a brand new stock airfilter i bet i would get twice the power that your intake and catback exhaust and kn netted you.
you want some better hp numbers pulloff your intake gasket match your exhaust, intake. then you KN would be worth something i can pull in 800cfm into anyengine but it wount do a dern thing if the engine cant manage it properly or have the room to move it hence why you need to a programmer to help control the airflow and fuel use.
and to answer julian superchips sucks go with a hand held programmer like sct, diablo, bullydog, something like that i have never heard of anything good about superchips
