I have a 2011 Sierra SLT Crew Cab, with the 5.3 engine and I am having problems with what sounds like pinging noise when I am driving say around 50, 60 or 70 MPH and I step on it and I hear that pining sound. It goes away when I get off of the gas. I have change up where I buy gas but it doesn’t help and even went to a higher grade fuel. Anyone have this problem. Is this normal for this engine. This is my first GM truck.

hawk, have you had the vehicle looked over by your dealer yet? They should be able to handle this for you. Unfortunately I don't have any DIY suggestions but you should be able to get this taken care of through your Bumper to Bumper warranty. I hope this helps and if you do take your vehicle in let us know.

Thanks for replying back. I took the truck in about three weeks ago when I first notice the pinging noise and left it with them. It was time for the oil change and I told them about the problem. They said?? They drove it and it was ok. So I took their word, but now it is getting worse. It just starts pinging now when I am driving at 50 to 60 MPH and I don’t have get down on it at all. I also notice what sound like a grinding noise when I am driving slow (20 MPH) I just happen to have the window down the other day and heard it. It wasn’t the brake it was coming from the engine compartment. I have an appointment Monday at the dealer and I will request someone ride with me so I duplicate the problem. I will let you know what happens. Again Thanks
