Putting transfercase into Neutral

I have an 01 seirra 1500 Z71 w/ push button 4X4. My question is, is there a sequence to pushing the 4X4 buttons to get the transfer case into neutral?

My 2003 owner's manual states:
1 - parking brake on
2 - start engine or turn ignition to run
3 - tranny in Neutral
4 - transfer case to 2HI
5 - push 2HI and 4LO buttons for 10 seconds. The red Neutral light comes on when done.
6 - shift tranny to Reverse for one second then to Drive for one second
7 - place tranny in Park.

To get out of neutral:
1 - parking brake on
2 - tranny to Neutral and ignition to Run with the engine off
3 - press button for desired range: 2HI, 4HI, 4LO
4 - after transfer case is out of neutral, the red light goes out
5 - you may start the engine and shift tranny to desired position

do9 not do the above with the motor running. If you do you will hear bad things happen in the tranny!
