rattling noise while driving?

I have a 1997 gmc sonoma 4.3L V6 extended cab sls and ive noticed that when i drive next to curbs or anything that can bounce the sound back to the cab there is a rough rattle. it seems to stop or at least quiet down when i step on the brakes. I'm not very auto inclined but i'm getting into it and would appreciate any input.

the anti rattel clips might be missing on you front disc brakes it could be a hundread things. just check around for heat shields and things like that, that could be loose
