I am new to the forum and on my 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 the remote start won't engage. I noticed this since the check engine light came on. I have tried refilling the gas tank and making certain the gas cap is on tight. I was wondering if there was anyone else who had this problem and what was the issue?

iv got that problem also is it a 07 Sierra, mines Extended cab.

nope, not yet i still having the problem engine light is still on and i have to keep turning on the Remote start on the DIC buttons when i turn off my truck. i do need a battery change had mine since 07 so i need to change that and if the problem resumes ill just take it to GM

i did leave the tank open for like max 5mins and then my old man had told me that may have cause the light to go on but its still there even if i tighten it.

I tried disconnecting the battery to see if it would reset the computer. It worked fine but once I shut off the truck and restarted it the light came back on. I guess I may have to take it to the dealer to see what the issue is.

If there is a Auto Zone or Parts Source in your area, they scan free of charge to get your DTC codes. If you do have a faulty gas cap, go the the dealer and pick up a OEM cap. The aftermarket is made for a wide range of cars and will fail again in less then 1 year.

mjaimes,
I would recommend that you contact your dealer and have them look into this for you. They are in the best position to get this issue diagnosed for you. Please keep me posted and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime.

As someone that has owned several GM vehicles with remote start I can tell you it is by design the remote start will NOT work while an error/check engine light exists, this isn't an indication something is wrong with remote start, hope this helps, I've experienced this on both my 2006 g6 and my 2007 Yukon Denali xl in my case both were caused by bad gas and after putting good gas back in check engine light went out and remote start worked again, maybe try different gas station, in both cases my vehicles didn't run differently I'm guessing the knock sensors are overly sensitive. Just my .02 just purchased my 2013 crew cab sierra and loving it.
