Hey guys, this is my first post here because I really need some help.

The last few months my 1992 GMC Jimmy SLE W-vin (4.3L Vortec V6) has been starting to idle pretty rough, sometimes to the point of dying out on me. So I brought it into my shop and did a tune up. Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, and I ran some sea foam through the intake manifold. Nothing changed. Except NOW its backfiring like crazy. And it never has before i started working on it this last week.

I took off the intake manifold and found a few puddles of gas. I replaced the fuel injection system and the fuel pressure regulator, and still nothing. Its still running rough and backfiring. I tried replacing the IAC and it ran rougher than the old one so I took it back. (Maybe they sold me a faulty one?)

Anyone come across this problem before? My next step is probably taking it somewhere with a scanner that can read my computer. Idk what else to do.

Thanks guys.

Inspect your EGR valve and the vacuum lines to it. Replace the EGR and lines if there are any signs of damage. Start with these simple things to check and post back.

Good luck and stay Safe.

Thanks for the response! I took off the EGR and it didn't seem to stick at all. As for the "lines" running to it are you referring to the electrical wires? Cause that's all I saw when I took it off. What do I need to look at to know if the EGR is the issue?
