I changed the battery on a 2000 gmc and when I tried to start the pickup the security sigh was flashing yellow at me and then a red battery symbol showed up and the pickup will not start

Try this it worked for me. Turn the ignition switch on and if the light is flashing do not try to start the truck. Let the light flash until it stops which should be about 10 minutes. When it stops flashing turn the ignition off and let it set for about 3 seconds. Turn the ignition back on the light should come on and go off in 5 - 7 seconds. When it goes off try to start the truck it should start. I had this happen to mine and this worked. The owners manual that came in the truck had the instructions on how to do it. Hope this helps.

I'll have to remember that tip, since I also have a 2000 GMC pickup. It reminds me of a problem I had with a 2003 Chevy Malibu . The " theft deterent" system would activate itself, and the engine wouldn't start unless I went through the 10 minute waiting period with the ignition on, as described in the owner's manual. The odd thing was, I had the 3 volume factory service manual, and never found a thing about the theft deterent reset procedure. But there it was, right in the owner's manual ! ( And after I'd spent two days trying to figure out why the engine wouldn't start, including worthless advice from the local Chevy dealer service manager.)
