Shift Fork Problem

my problem is that from neutral i cant get into first gear the only time i am able to get into first gear is when i gear down and stay in first then from there i can just go again but if i take it out of first and try to put it back in it will just grind no matter what ... iv been told this is a shift fork problem and if so how to fix it

Start with the simple and check your clutch fluid level, a low fluid would cause this type of problem and would indicate ether you have a slow leak in the system or your clutch is worn and needs to be replaced soon. If it's your clutch that needs to be replaced soon, take note that you can have your fly wheel resurfaced rather then replace is if it's not past the wear point of no return. Also it would not hurt to replace your transmission fluid and inspect the condition or the fluid and see if there ate any excessive metal shavings in with the oil. :eek:

theres no such thing as tanny fluid in a manual

You'll find the drain and fill plugs on the side of the transmission.

Wish my standard transmission didn't need transmission fluid servicing every so often to keep it running without problems. :rolleyes:
