Ever since I picked up a cherry 07 SLT last fall I've noticed a curious
phenomena with the charging system, it seems to be a "part-time" player,
ie, it only charges as needed... OK, I've figured out that it has a "smart"
charging system, and from what little I can get out of the owners manual,
its behaving in the expected manner... Like to hear more about that if
anyone has any hard info, I've also found info that mentions a "fuel economy
mode" that has an even greater effect on the smart charging
system... But I can't find direct reference to that at all, nothing in the
index at all about that, like to hear more about that too if anybody knows
anything...
Tnx, Paul R...

It is controlled by the ECM. I have two GM products and they both will range from 12 to 14.5 volts when driving them. If it goes below 12 volts then it's actually discharging which isn't a good thing. I asked a local garage owner about it and he said it was normal as long as it was above 12 volts.
