I have noticed a short lived squeal whenever my thermostat opens up. It sounds very similar to a belt squealing, and after about 5 seconds the squealing stops. It doesn't do it every time the thermostat opens, but it does do it frequently. Additionally, the belt (which is rather new, see below) has some staining that appears to be rust colored. I am rather suspicious of the water pump going bad.
I have replaced the thermostat, tensioner, and alternator within the last 2 months, the belt within the last 8 months, and did a power steering, and coolant flush within the last 3 months.
It also seems worth mentioning that the truck has lived it's entire life up until 2 months ago in northern CA, so it had it pretty easy. About 2 months ago we moved to Michigan (I made a number of repairs indicated above before we went on the trip). I mention that because we have put on about 4,000 miles in the last 2 months, through some fairly nasty snow and ice conditions.

5.7L, 150,000 miles.
Any ideas? Is my hunch about the water pump reasonable, or should I look elsewhere?
