Hello all.

I inherited a 1996 4WD Jimmy 4 door from my uncle. There seems to be a broken wire between the battery and starter. Does anyone know the length or gauge for a replacement?

Thanks!

From the service manual this cable is listed as two different sizes, depending on whether you have the 2.2L or the 4.3L engine.

The 2.2L engine uses a DIN 32 (or automotive 2ga AWG)

The 4.3L engine uses a DIN 19 (or automotive 4ga AWG)

As for the length is is ussally best to match it to the original length, because the longer the cable length the greater the voltage drop you will get.

Now this doesn't mean much on household wiring but gets really importent with automotive wiring as you only have a 12v (nominal) power source.

And remember that your starter will not operate if the battery voltage drops below 10.5v.

run a heavier gauge wire to the starter and shield the line when its close to the starter so like a high temp boot similar to the spark plug boots so it wont crack easily or get torn up by heat and like smoky said keep the length the same longer wire means more degradation and voltage loss over length...
