temperature sending unit '76 Jimmy

I recently bought an 1976 Jimmy with a 400cu engine. There was no reading from the cooling temp meter. I replaced the sending unit, but the reading on the meter is to high.
Can someone tell me what the correct sending unit is.
I heard that you can use a standard TS-6 sending unit.
