2016 Canyon SLT. # times now I have had my steering goof up! It seems to have a ratchet in it. Then when you turn to either right or left, it will not center back to straight! 1st time I went to dealer and made an app. When I checked back, service counter said they could not duplicate problem, could i leave overnight. Okay. Next day same thing C.N.D. Told to bring back if does it again, but leave running. 2nd time, did as instructed, service had mecanic go with me on ride, he said yep I see what you mean, another app., same thing, C.N.D problem, bring back if does again. Tuesday 8/16, did again, service person went with me again, YEP I see what you mean! App. for 8/17. Guess what, CND again, could I leave overnight again? Okay. Today, checked with dealer, C.N.D, again! Guess what I was told? Bring back, leave run and we will have mechanic go with you? How many times will this go on? Warrenty is up at 48000 or 2022? Wouldn't be so bad, except previous GMC Sierra had a problem with undercoating issues that never were solved! First GMC was shame on GM, this one I guess shame on me! After 17 GM cars and trucks since 1988, this is it! No more! I`ll buy foreign from now on!

In my opinion, especially since you have dealership employees that have witnessed it, I would refuse to take it back until it is indeed fixed. Steering is not something for the dealership to take lightly. At the very least I would contact a GM rep higher than the dealership.

I don't know if there is any relation or not, but a friend of mine recently received a recall notice for his 2014 Sierra for a steering issue. He said it had something to do with sudden loss of steering ability. Maybe something to research and see if it is the same symptoms you are having.

Good luck.

Contact GM, they will work with you, I have had great customer experiences with GM over the last several years including refunds for out of warranty work.
The Dealerships don't always give a crap, but once you get GM involved it seems to get worked out.

Contacted GM this morning. However I hold out little hope for this avenue. Hard to understand the Rep. with the far Eastern accent! But she did say someone will return my call, concerning my problems.

Park it at any GM Dealer. No need to be the one you bought it at. Demand to talk to GM Rep. Do not drive it with steering issues.

So I got a phone call from the dealer today, concerning my steering problem, that they could not duplicate. Seems the service manager located a bulletin pertaining to 2016 Canyon Steering! He said he ordered the steering gear and would call when it showed up! This after I both called the 800 number in the manual and e-mailed them too. But I have not heard back from GMC? But I`m happy that the situation will be resolved.(I hope)
Thanks for the advice!
