Hey guys,

I am trying to figure out the difference in the non Z71 package to the Z71. I noticed that the Z71 sits higher than my truck and the shocks are different.
I know this sounds stupid but just trying to see what I need to make it perform like the Z71.

So far I have done a 3in body, Poweraid TBS and airaid intake, and leveling kit. but for some reason it seems like the stock trucks still sit higher or just about equal to my truck. its an 06 4x4 base model.... the good old fashion manual locks and windows and vynel flooring.

Any help would be nice.

Each year the content of the Z71 package can change slightly.

For 2006 the Z71 Off-Road Package was available on half-ton 4WD models. The Z71 package includes; 46-mm gas-charged shock absorbers, off-road jounce bumpers, specific stabilizer bars, a skid-plate package, a high-capacity air cleaner and distinctive Z71 decals for the pickup box.

Do you know where I will be able to purchase these parts or what the parts numbers are? I'm not really looking for the decals on the truck.

I tried looking online but I keep coming up with the 2500 sierra not the 1500 sierra.

You are going to have to go to a GM dealer to get parts numbers because they are going to have to drill down in the parts catalog to find the correct parts for your exact model. You will have to buy every part piece meal right down to the nuts and bolts. Its going to cost you a lot of money. Someone told me one shock alone can run over $100 a piece. There is no kit that has these items packaged.

The air cleaner/filter can easily be changed as you just drop in the HD filter, its the same air box. Note-The HD air filter is an option available on other models but standard on Z71. You can get a filter from just about any place, just make sure it the HD version as some filter company's just package one filter under 2 part numbers.

You will need to buy each skid plate and all the attaching fasteners.

You will need to buy each individual jounce bumpers

You will need the stabilizer bar, mounting brackets, links, nuts bolts

You are going to need a very patient parts man to look all this up for you as its likely going to take some time to do this and they likely will not do it for a non-paying customer, if they suspect you are price shopping. Also they will need your vin in order to pull up the correct parts guide for your year make and model.

If you know anyone in the body shop business you can likely find the information in their crash estimating guide but like the dealer, time is money so they may not want to waste their time looking up something they won't make any $ from.

All the parts etc are on computer now so there are no books to look at.

PS-You might think you can get away buying nuts, bolts etc locally but you would be wrong. Most are specialty fasteners that you will never find in the local hardware store. I talk from experience, been there and know its a waste of time to even look, not to mention being the wrong strength materials.

I would like to Thank You for your help on this. I got my Sierra off a old man that was moving south and didn't need the 4X4 anymore.

I didn't know there was that much of a difference I figured it was just an apperance package. With the chrome bumpers and fog lights also some interior things.

I talked to my body shop guy and he said he can look everything up for me but like you said its going to cost some $. I guess I'll be doing these mods over some time.

Once again Thanks for the help.
