ive searched and couldnt really find what i was looking for...

i had to change the battery in my truck 1990 GMC sierra 2500 has a 350 TBI in it...anyways after i changed the battery and starter and took care of what was needed it wouldnt start...just cranks and cranks and cranks...

so i took the air cleaner off and noticed that no fuel was spitting out the two silver injector things whatever there called ( i came from the honda world and know nothing about v8s ) so i got to looking and asking around, everyone said i needed to change the pick up coil...so i did took the dist. out and replaced everything went to put it back in, and truck wont start getting fuel now but no start...but when i put the dist back in the rotor wasnt in the same spot as when we took it out but couldnt get it to go in any other way...

so now everyone is telling me my timing is off and i have no clue where to go from here !

any help would be MUCH MUCH MUCH appriciated !

thank you for helping a NEWBIE !

sounds like you left one of the wires off at the starter. There is the battery cable and two or three other wires with fuseable links in them. If all the wires are conected check your fuseable links. Good luck

oh no, all the wires are on and good to go, lemme try to explain the dist. thing...

when we took the dist. out. the rotor was pointing to the rear of the truck passanger corner of the bed, and the only way we could get it to slide back in, was with the rotor facing the driver side bed corner...knowing damn well that, that wasnt right, i put it in anyways because its the only way i could get it to slide it ( i know stupid of me right )...

i took it back out turned the crankshaft did the ziptie thing in the number one spark plug to get it to TDC, and then put it back in and re positioned the #1 spark plug wire, and lined the rotor up with that...and now what i try to start it... fuel pumps into the TBI ( assuming thats what its called ) and then after 2-3 cranks it puffs a huge cloud of gas back out the top of the TBI, with no fire...someone told me my dist. was 180* off...

thats were im at now !

Sounds like you put the distributor in out of time. Maybe 1 or 2 teeth or maybe 180* out of time. So take it out again and follow the #1 spark plug on the cap and make a mark on the metal part of the distributor. With the cap off align the brass tab of the rotor up with the mark on the dizzy. Turn the engine over using a ratchet on the crank and get the timing mark on the harmonic balance wheel with the mark on the tab on the timing chain cover. You also should have your #1 spark plug removed and stick your finger in the hole when you are bringing the timing mark up. You should get a puff of air pushing your finger out of the hole. This is the compression stroke. Recheck that the timing marks are lined up. Now take the dizzy and install it but make sure the rotor is in line with the mark. Now just before the gear engages rotate the rotor counter clockwise . This is a feel thing but you want to let the gears mesh and when you drop in the dizzy the rotor will line up with the mark on the dizzy. Now you are not done because most likely the dizzy did not go all of the way down because it is not lined up with the oil pump. Don't panic just put a little hand pressure on the dizzy and turn the motor over with the socket wrench on the crank and when the oil pump lines up the dizzy will fall in. Put in the locking plate and tighten the bolt by hand. Put the cap on and check the wires are correct 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Have someone start the car and if you have gas and spark it will run but like crap. Turn the dizzy until it idles and then get a timing light and set it to spec. You are done.
