Ok so three days ago I started up my 2001 sierra 1500 and I noticed it shift roughly into reverse. Then I put her in drive and she luged off the line like as if it had a clutch. I learned that the trans is actually stuck in 3rd gear and wont down or upshift. So I took it to autozone to run the engine light that came on at the same time and it showed many codes. 4 shift solenoid failure codes and a torque converter failure code. Does anyone know how much roughly its going to cost to get all of those problems fixed?

The cost should be just under $200.00 for the repair part and labor. That would be a new Shift A solenoid, filter and fluid if you have not burnt out your clutch pack from over heating the transmission being in Limp Mode with a 3rd gear start.

What is "limp-home mode" ? This is a fault mode in which the transmission either loses electrical power or the PCM deactivates all of the electronics.

The transmission will default to max line pressure which is why you get the hard shifts when putting in revers or in to drive. You will have Reverse and 3rd, with manual 2nd available by putting the gearshift in 2 or 1 (doesn't matter). 1st, 4th, and TCC lockup will not be available thats why you have also a Torque Converter code.

It will not hurt the car to drive it like this for short periods, but use manual 2nd to get the car moving, and be aware that the trans will generate more heat than normal while operating in limp-home mode due to increased torque converter slippage during 2nd gear starts and no lockup in 3rd gear.

Hope this helps and keep us posted. ;)
