Transmission (maybe)

Just replaced the rearend in my 92 sierra and while out test driving engine shut off.. wont crank at all. Have already checked the starter and the battery they are fine. There was no knocking or any other warning signs of a problem before it just died out on me. Can the transmission lock or freeze up and if so how can I diagnose or fix it? This is a 5.7 v8 with a 700r tranny.

Is the starter drive trying to engage? I know you said it won't crank but is it getting power? Have you checked all your fuses?
