I have a 1992 C2500. I was on a long drive and noticed that the trip odometer was 99.8 and I was going to watch it roll to 100. It was not incrementing at the same rate as the main one. In fact, in over a couple miles, it didn't move. I looked later and the number had incremented. Currently, in 150 miles on the odometer, there is 125 miles on the trip odometer.

How can this be? I have been using the trip odometer to compute gas mileage and it has been getting worse. This is part of the reason, it isn't showing the true mileage. I only put a few thousand miles a year on this truck so this could have been going on for years.
Thanks,
-Dave

Bump

Anyone? I have been searching and I don't find anything like this. Is this a mechanical issue or an electronic issue?
On my 95 T'bird, this is a gear that the teeth fall off and a new gear is $80!

Kinda makes you want to give up your vehicles and get a horse. They are still building them the old fashioned way.

Swap Instrument Cluster W/Tach

What changes need to happen to swap in an instrument cluster w/tach?

Replaced the thermostat and the sending unit. The Temp gauge reading have remained the same. I did do a tune-up. Haven't driven the truck enough to see if that made a different.

Molson02536 says ..."as for the trip odometer. Its mechanical in the dash and there is no fix other then replacement."
Since there are 2 possible things wrong with the cluster, I pulled mine to get part numbers. I was surprised to see that the cluster just plugs into a contact on the back. There is only electrical connection to the instrument cluster. I have submitted 2 different posts and asked if the cluster with tach will retro-fit. Never seeing the posts appear, I went and bought a cluster w/tach for $35. I put it in and it works. I get a "Check Gauges" light on the cluster. Didn't run the truck long enough to see if the Temp would read normal.

I am guessing if the Temp gauge never reads the correct temperature of the coolant, that I should check the wire from the sending unit. The Temp gauge does sweep all the way over on startup. Doubtful that 2 gauges would be bad, but possible.
Thanks,
-Dave
