unbalanced fan noise in dash

I have an 08 1500 sierra 5.3 crew cab and I recently started hearing a fan noise from the dash on the drivers side. It is not the blower for the heat / cool because I can hear it all the time even when the heat is off. And when you shut off the truck you can hear it wind down to a stop. Any info would be appreciated!

Don't know if your 08 is the same but I have an 03 extended cab, there is a small fan above the driver in the ceiling, what exactly it does I don't know. It looks like a microphone or small speaker grille and I thought it was until mine started to make noise.

Unfortunately the dealer, I couldn't figure out what it was. I don't know if the headliner had to come out or not. Sorry.
