USB/Ipod Question

I'd like to connect my Ipod in via the USB port so it can charge but be able to manually control it from my ipod not through the stereo.

I know I can do this via an aux cord but would prefer if there was a way to do it through the usb port so I can charge it at the same time.

Any ideas?
