P1870 is a generic code for the transmission slipping when changing gears. Your going to have to get it re scanned to find out what is causing your transmission to slip. Could be from low transmission line pressure to a torque converter going bad or wear in the control valve body. This wear occurs in the bore that contains the TCC isolator and regulator valves, and results in poor, or no, TCC apply.

Good chance that its going to be the control valve body that will ned to be looked at. Make sure you install a control valve body with the revised TCC regulator and isolator valves. These valves are used in all transmissions produced after January 15, 1999, and all of the service parts currently available through GMSPO contain revised TCC regulator and isolator valves.

Keep us posted ;)

i got it checked out, it is the valve body. can i just replace it, or does the new one have to be reprogrammed?

No need to be reprogramed, but you may want to replace the boost valve and sleeve with a 0.490 size or adjust your EPC valve for a higher transmission line pressure since your in there. If the valve body is not that bad, a simple adjustment of the EPC valve will address the code your transmission is giving you.

Ask your transmission tech first, I don't know what shape your valve body is and replace your transmission fluid with TranSynd Full Synthetic Transmission Fluid. I have been using it since the first transmission service in all my toys and my 96 Jimmy is not pushing just over 400,000 miles. :D

Here is a post i had with information about the 4L60E transmission hats in your Jimmy, http://gmcowners.com/gmc-forum/showthread.php?t=21497

Hope this helps and keep us posted

Hard shift here too

Molson02536,

It didn't show up until the high 90's temps yesterday and today.

First thing I checked was the fluid and the color was normal and didn't smell burned as I expected.

Is this fix need to be done at a trams shop or can it be done in the barn?

I'm a long way from a trans shop now. Could I cause perminant damage if I drove it 70 miles in the heat to a shop?

Thanks,

Warren
