I bought a 1995 Sonoma a few weeks ago. On the way home from buying it the water temp gauge slowly went to 240 Deg. I replaced the radiator, thermostat, temperature sending unit to no avail. I then installed an aftermarket temp gauge and found that the truck actually is running right at 185 deg rather than 240 deg. I then replaced the gauge cluster and temp sending wire to gauge cluster. The gauge still reads hi. Any ideas?

1998+ have a single ECT located between plugs 3 and 5. The sensor is for the gauge and the PCM. 1997 and before had 2 sensors, one near the plugs for the gauge, and one near the thermostat for the computer.

The dash gauge sensor is on the drivers side of the block down near the spark plug area between spark plug 3 & 5. It has a single wire going to it and the wire has a connector that unhooks up near the top of the intake manifold. The dash gauge is just for the drivers view and the sensor near the thermostat is for the computer, they should not interact. You may have a ground or some other wiring problem going on the sensor to the side of the engine and not the one on the intake manifold by the thermostat.

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

RE- temp sensor

I should have included this is the 4 cylinder engine
