What is my max payload on my 03 GMC Sierra?

I cant find my payload specs anywhere. I have an 03 GMC Sierra K1500 ext cab short bed with the z71 package and a 5.3L. I am trying to figure out how much weight I can put in my bed.
Ive had 1100 pounds of brick in the bed and about 500 pounds of people in the cab and it seemed to hold up fine

They don't make it easy, do they? Best way is to look at the rating tag on door jamb. It will list "Gross Vehicle Weight Rating" or GVWR. Now drive the truck across a scale and subtract that weight from the GVWR.

The difference between the two is what your truck is rated to carry. Bear in mind this number includes everything; fuel, people, gear and what's in the bed, but if you subtract, say, 500 or 600 lbs. for fuel and people, you'll be really close to actual payload.

Most people are surprised by how little their trucks are are rated to carry. We have a '97 GMC Sonoma that figures out to a payload of something like 300 lbs. Getting into heavier duty pickups, 3/4 ton or 1 ton, these numbers will go up significantly.
