My husband has a 1997 GMC Suburban and the AC had been blowing hot air, so we bought the $20 recharge kit at walmart, but it didn't help. What else could cause this and how much do you all think it will cost to fix? I would call the shop but it is saturday night - just wanted to get some ideas. thanks

To gert just a regular recharge cost about $80 in California. Be careful not to overcharge the A/C or you;ll ruin the compressor. Check to see if the clutch switch is working. You can hear a "click" on the compressor when someone turn on the A/C, Next check the A/C relay ( your owners manual should tell you or go to youtube.com and type in location of A/C relays. If there is one read the numbers on the side and see if you can find another relay in the relay and fuse box that is similar in the male prongs and switch. You should be getting some cooler air.. If not you may have a leak or you have a defective dryer/condenser

The Do-it-your-self-kits are garbage. I'd make sure the fuse is good, all the wiring is connected properly and then I'd take it to a garage and just pay to have it done right.

If you tried to recharge the system and made sure that there is no leak and it's still blowing hot air, I would suspect the AC compressor.
The compressor is round $40 at a junk yard and it will take about an hour to replace...the cost will depend on where you are going to get the part from and where you are going to install it.
Good luck.
