I have a 2006 Sierra 4x4 5.3 and I am looking to improve performance and fuel economy. Only thing I have done is a catback Flowmaster exhaust. Thinking of a CAI next, any suggestions on what brand to get or any other suggestions that have shown he results I am looking for. Thanks for the help

It seems as if no one is interested!! BUT...I am!! GM has a nice cold air intake system.

Part Number: 17801346
Brand: GM

Performance Air Intake Kit (w/ RPO Code LR4, LM7, LQ4, LQ9, L33,and L59)

Additional Information
These Performance Air Intakes have an aluminum tube that will stay highly polished thanks to a maintenance-free clear coat finish. The free-breathing air filter does not require oil, which can interfere with computer sensors. The aluminum lid has the GM Performance Parts logo and is VMC'd (Vapor Metal Coated) for a durable and highly polished look.

It sells for around $450ish. Chrome metal box cover and well constructed. I had one on my 2007 Sierra new body 5.3, but I also had the touring catback stainless exhaust from GM. I just bought a new 2013..but I chose to keep her quiet for a while.

Hey thanks for the info, is easy to forget about OEM parts with all the ads for aftermarket parts. I will be cheking it out.

Also wondering if you ever installed any performance chips. If so, did it perform like the ads say they would. I have been looking into them as well. Just trying to figure the best bang for the buck.

Thanks

Ya I am in the same boat as you. I have a 2006 GMC 1500 5.3L and I am looking to add performance and fuel economy. Not sure what to get, chip?cold air intak?exhaust?....

If you do something let me know the results and I will do the same. I'm leaning towards a chip because it seems to get the most results, now it is deciding which chip to get

Stay away from chips, there are no Chips made for your LS engine that will bring out the performance and economy that your looking for.

Give these guys a call and this is the best thing you can do to bring out the engine and transmission performance for your dollar. http://www.pcmforless.com/

Keep us posted;)

My opinion is to do a cold air (I did K&N), Full length headers and true dual exhaust (I had Doug Thorley headers, no cats and Flowmaster 40 mufflers).
I had a 2001 Sierra Z71 with 5.3L

As for chips/tuners, I put an Edge CS Gas tuner/programmer in mine, it's a little on the expensive side but it did a great job of tuning. I ran on the towing mode most of the time and it gave me some extra torque that could break my 35" tires loose on dry pavement. Hypertech Max isn't bad either, I had that in it first then switched out to the Edge. Diablo sport is half decent, I have never used one but a buddy of mine used one in his Ford Lightning. Other than that not much in the way of chips/programmers, I put a 'chip' in my 99 4.3L and it didn't do anything, So if you are looking for electronic performance don't put a chip in, put a tuner/programmer in.

Otherwise a performance tuned PCM like Molson said is always an excellent option.
