Greetings. New Guy here. I have owned 3 Sierras.
Right now I have a 1500 Ext Cab with the 20" wheel and tire package. I bought it from a rural dealership, and needless to say the 20" package was on sale, so I got that one.
The wheels look like this:
I replaced the tires once and it was $$$. Now, I have 2 bent rims from driving around the ranch and need to spend $600 to replace the rims, and nearly $1,000 to replace all 4 tires. I think that the rims are the problem because my dad's truck goes the same speed down the same trails with the 17" rims and his do not get bend up. I assume it is the extra "padding" of more tire and less rim that makes the difference... am I wrong?
For only a little less, I could replace all 4 with some OEM 17" rims, and then get 17" tires cheaper than the 20s. I am looking at these OEM:
With these, I run less of a risk of ruining more rims, and replacement tires will be cheaper from now on. I plan on keeping this truck until it dies.
Has anyone done this? Am I missing anything? I know that I will have to adjust the speedo computer (a friend has a computer), but will there be any other issues with suspension, steering, brakes?
