Why is my 2002 gmc envoy revving so fast when I try to accelerate?

I've had this problem in the past but it would stop when the engine warmed up. Today it kept revving high every time I would try to accelerate. The revving is high but acceleration is low. I have no leaking fluids. Could it be an air sensor?
It revs high from the time I start it.
I have only 30,000 miles.
It's an automatic V6

Sounds like what you have described is your transmission is slipping. Inspect your transmission fluid level, if the level is good. There is a good chance that the transmission line pressure is low from a weak pump, low transmission fluid or faulty Boost valve.

Have a transmission shop inspect your transmission and have this addressed soon as possible before you end up burning up your transmission and costing you around a $1,800 repair for a rebuilt transmission.

When you check your transmission fluid, make sure the engine is at idle and in park at operating temperature. The fluid should be bright red and no foaming, if the transmission is dark, it's brunt (dark color) from excessive heat from your clutches slipping. If it's foaming, it could be that your transmission filter fell from the valve body or your transmission pump is going bad.

That sounds like the fan clutch. I have a 2000 Envoy that uses a viscous fan clutch. It make a high rpm sound as if the engine is over revving but it actually is the fan spinning at a high rate of rpm's. Call your dealer service manager and explain it to him and he might be able to give you a better explanation. My fan clutch finally went out all together just a year ago. When they go bad, they stay on all the time. If it is working normally, the sound usually goes away within about a minute or so.
