The fastest it has ever gone is about 97 and it feels like more power is behind the pedal but it abruptly stops, its a 5.3 v8 so why wont it is their some sort of speed limiter or governor, and if so how do you get rid of it

any help please and thanks

Thanks to lawyers out there, GM and the other car and truck makers program a top speed limiter that will shut down the fuel system. You can have this taken off if you can find someone with a Tech 2 scanner (Transmission Shop like extra money under the table) or HP tuner.

Call around and find a Speed shop that can Dyno tune your Sierra to your preference of performance. Take note that seeing your Sierra is only 1 year old may void your warranty and there is also the liability factor that most smart tuners will not exceed the speed rating on the tires that are on the Sierra now. http://www.speedengineeringanddyno.com/index.html http://www.maximumperformance.biz/index.html

I believe the governor on your Sierra is at 96 MPH, I have mine set at 115 MPH on my Jimmy to match the tire rating and when I put on the C4 Corvette rims i bump it up to 135 MPH if it ever could do that. May be down a hill with a runaway train pushing me.

There is a certain point where it's just HP that needs to push the brick through the air.

Yea its set to only go so fast for safety reasons. I personally think this is a good thing.

Being big as a barn doesn't help much. But I can make it to the deer stand. Don't see many fast cars while I'm there.

Must be a "young" thing. When I was in my early-mid 20's, I wanted speed, but realistically, how often did I really go VERY fast? Probably only a handful of times. These days, I rarely speed. It seems that change happened for me when I hit my 30's. I think quick acceleration can be appreciated more often than top speed. But to each his or her own. Just be safe!!
