Hope there is help out there still on this site
My brother-in-law bought me a stereo system (receiver and speakers) from Crutchfield (awesome place to go to!) but he neglected to accept buying the adapter for the alarms/sounds. When I received the unit, I misunderstood how to hook it up and thought I had to hardwire it (not realizing I didn't have the necessary harness he didn't buy). I snipped the oem wiring harness off thinking I had to hardwire the stereo adapter to it. WRONG. So I went and bought an oem wiring harness online to replace my mistake. However, following the color code of the new harness and the oem wiring diagram for my Canyon that Crutchfield just sent me today, I still have no power. When I took the oem stereo out, I found a black and red wire that look like they are connected to the battery and were somehow connected to the oem stereo. The Crutchfield rep said to cap them off and not use them. These were two separate wires not in with the oem wiring harness off the truck. I am not sure where to go from here. I tried to hook up the red wire from the truck to the red wire on the new stereo but that didn't get me power either. I realize what an idiot I was for snipping the wires so no need for criticism as I have heard enough already and been kicking myself for the mistake. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Do you need more information and if so what? I have switched out radios before but that was 20 years ago when everything seemed so much more simplified.
