Fuel Gauge questions

I promise this is my last post for a while.


Whenever I turn off my Jimmy and I sit in there for a little bit without pulling the key from the ignition or opening the door, the gas gauge jumps to about half a tank, even if the car has less or more then half a tank.

What is causing this because my moms Chevrolet Suburban does the exact same thing.

Need moving up to the half mark is nutral posistion for the stepper motor when there is not current to indicate where the fuel level is at.
