I have a 2 wheel drive 2001 GMC Jimmy SLS, I want to change it to a 4 wheel drive. Will it be hard or would it be more worth it to just trade it in for a 4x4?

Trade it in. Way way to many mods to even mention. Trans, exhaust, front transfer case, etc.. You would probably end up spending over $7,000

with enough determination and know how, anything is possible. not to be a prick, but if you have to ask, its most likely beyond your capabilities and would probably be best to do as "Boring" suggested, trade it in.

unless they were able to find a donor for cheap. say someone had one listed on craigslist that had been in an accident or something and were just trying to basically sell it for parts, you could probably pick up a salvage titled Jimmy/Blazer for a couple hundred dollars. of course, like you hinted at, that would be the easy part. i picked up my 96 for $850 and the drivetrain is completely free from problems. body work is another story though.

If you get used parts from a junkyard, I'm sure it wouldn't be $7,000.

But Boring is right, it would cost alot to do, but if you have the resources it's doable.

From 4x4 to 2W was fun and worth it

Well changing over a 4x4 94 SLE to a 2 wheel drive was about 3 grand with new transmission and 3/4 ton rear axle installed. that was with the work done by myself and a few other "highly motivated and educated hands as well" ... if u find some ppl who r interested in the end product and have your turst then the parts can b found and work be done quite a bit under 7000.
