Where do I find the paint code? I think it may be sandmist or pewter.

The paint code for all GMC trucks and SUV's are located on the service parts identification sticker. While the sticker is moved around from year to year, it still in your glove box on the Sonoma. Most labels are white paper sticker, while more moderns ones are a silver label. Most paint codes in our database start out with a "WA", most cars and trucks will start out with a "BC/CC U". BC/CC stands for basecoat/clearcoat, and the U stands for upper or body color.

Two Tone Models: A two toned car will have a "U" followed by the four digit color code for the body color, and an "L" followed by a four digit color code for the lower color or the bumper color.

Color Code 11 Pewter Met
Color Code WA382E Pewter Met
Option that is close to what you described would be the gold color
Color Code 60 Gold Met
Color Code WA398E Gold Met

Good luck and hope this helps. :D

Good job, now all you need to do is to give it a coat of epoxy primer before you have the paint sprayed. The epoxy primer will keep the rust away the longest, the other trick you can do if your are going to paint the tail gate your self is to give it a coat of rustoleum paint.

The mix should be 50% paint and 50% mineral spirits. This will produce a product with the consistency of milk. You want it nice and runny, but with a little body still. Too thin and you will have drips all over your car which will only add to the sanding work you are trying to avoid. Too thick and it will take longer to dry then you want. I found the best way to do this was to pour half of the paint can into another container. Then, add the mineral spirits to the remaining paint in the can. Mix it well and you are good to go!

Once the paint is dry you can give it a light sanding, prime it, then paint it with your colour code to your Somoma. I have done this to the bottom half of my Jimmy where is was starting to rust back in 2003 and here is a picture of it two years ago. ;)

Good luck and hope this helps.
