2001 GMC Sonoma. The RPM's are jumping 1000 to 5000 back and forth, a surge, while in cruise control.

It has started sounding strained, like it is having to pull hard to move forward when I start from a start.

A couple of times it will just stop moving forward. If I push on the exceleraton when it is acting this way the RPM's jump then fall fast. Have to turn her off or put her in reverse to go forward.

She is having a couple of other stupid symptoms but I will wait till I hear from you guys.

Thanks

Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace. Also kinda sounds like from what you described  No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the underhood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like the transmission harness or an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

Keep us posted and good luck, going on tour so may not get back to you right away.
