So I installed a used CD player into my friends 93 Jimmy. After the install everything seemed OK. That night, he turned his lights on and the power to the CD player turned off. But no bigggy. A few days later, during the night, went for a drive and instead of the cd player turning off, it stayed on and smoke came from under the dash.

He stopped and we pulled the deck out. Found a bunch of cables melted together so I cut the Primary Battery and ground. Everything seemed OK on the drive home.. Except when he went to turn the truck off, now all the lights stay on even though the truck is turned off and the light switch is turned off.

Please help.

Thanks.

Does anyone have any idea's where I can start checking on this problem?

The short in the wire harness has melted the insulator off and your getting cross current to the other wires from a live 12V feed. Your going to have to go through the wire harness and trace every wire in the harness and replace the damaged area in the harness or go to the salvage yard and pick one out of a salvaged Jimmy and replace the harness.

Start with the fuse block it self to see if it's damaged from there, if the fuse block is melted. Replace it as there is most likely cross 12 volt is happening there. Good luck and keep us posted.
